I made my first Heidi. I love this pattern, I think it’s almost too simple (to make) yet very charming. Since the fabric was very lacy and too sheer, I couldn’t put the pockets to the dress. I omitted the lining with the same reason as pockets, but put narrow facings to the neckline and the armholes instead. I wasn’t sure about the ribbons on the belt to my dress (they are very nice on the one from BurdaStyle, though), but am kinda happy with the result (about the ribbons) in the end. Overall I am very pleased with what I have done to the dress. I’ll definitely have those pretty pockets next time though!

Thank you for the comment, kerrizombie, no it wasn’t. Polyester lace is easy to sew! We can just sew it like we sew muslin, as it is not flowy at all.

Was that fabric hell to work with? Beautiful dress. Well done.

You guys are really great, thanks for the comments! amarie, I think it’s a little bit tricky. Do you have some favorite knit for the dress? or are you taking care not to put a zipper? If you are avoiding a zipper, I would say that it’s easier to put a zipper than applying knit fabric to this dress, for a beginner. This dress is quite fit on the waist. With lining, you wouldn’t be able to get in the dress even if it was made out of knit. If you omit the lining, there is possibility. But then omitting the lining means getting insecure neckline to this dress. Thus you have to think something new, the facing with interfacing, or adding rib-knit/bias binding to the neckline (like a T-shirt). Yes, those techniques are practical and nothing complicated, but I think a zipper is simpler way for the first Heidi. … what do you think? I hope you will get the nicest fabric and a pretty Heidi, without being discouraged by my writing!

This is lovely and I’m glad you said this was easy, makes it a good candidate for us beginners. Do you think if I use knit I can do away with the zipper?

Thanks all for your nice comments! Now I am absolutely in love with this pattern! JJ, it seems very good idea (a top from this pattern). I think those tucks on the body are most charming part of the pattern, and chopping off the skirt might enhance the shape. Sounds very nice!

Very nice, you can dress up or down. I think it will make a nice top too if we do some alteration.
