Lace Collar Necklace - ModCloth Handmade Contest

Description
I made a lace collar necklace using a lace collar I bought from a market and the chain was bought online a while ago from My Vintage Charms. I carefully sewed the two together with a beading needle since it was small enough to fit through the links in the chain.
The necklace is a present to myself because I’ve been searching for detachable collars for a while and didn’t think about how easy it was to make until now.
The Modcloth item that would complement this necklace would be the Delightfully Warm Tights in Oatmeal.

OOH!! I have a gorgeous lace collar and have been wanting to make it a necklace/detachable collar but could not settle on exactly how. This is a really neat idea! Did you do something to stiffen the collar though?

I didn’t do anything to the collar. I just used it as I bought it. I don’t think it had been treated beforehand. It feels just like standard lace to me.
Pictures would be nice if you make one yourself. I’d love to your take on it.

I have some very delicate vintage lace collars, hand crocheted by Belgian nuns! My mum and I bought them way back when I was about 5 or 6. I don’t have the heart to use them on just a single garment. I’m trying to figure a nice way to make them into a removable collar. Will definitely post pics when I’m done. :)

Clever idea…I too have a vintage 1950s collar….maybe I need to sew it to t-shirt.
