Self drafted wedding reception dress in silk faille with Alecon lace applique. The bodice has boning and built-in bras. Dress is lined in silk charmeuse. It took me many hours agonizing over the applique design, and many weeks cutting out the smallest elements of the lace, and appliqueing them to the dress. The silk faille fabric is very unforgiving, so I couldn’t undo any mistake as all the needle marks show. The dress wasn’t 100% finished when the picture was taken on the dress form, one of the strap was undone.
The wool cape was inspired by the Valentino wool cape from the fall 2013 collection. It was made out of italian wool flannel, lined in silk charmeuse.
I made this ensemble for my son’s fiance, now my daughter in law, for their wedding this past December. The third picture is of my daughter-in-law at the reception, and the last picture is the original Valentino cape.
