I work in a costume shop, and we’d often get asked if we had a Kylie Minogue Showgirl costume and we had to say no. This being Melbourne, the city of Our Kylie’s birth, I thought we really should have one on offer.
I built it up over an existing corset I bought from an underwear shop. I used strands of plastic pre-threaded beads, feather boas, masses of tulle and an antique brooch for embellishment. I’m about to start work on the headdress.
Purple stretch velveteen with silver stars, grosgrain ribbon, feather boas, plastic beads, antique brooch, tulle.
Kylie’s stylist is William Baker, so credit must go to him!

is it pretty much adjustable to any size? i’ve always wondered how costume shops manage to hire out costumes to people of all sizes and shapes. i really like the modesty skirt – you’re right, who would wear it without it! (maybe bridget jones!)

Thanks RedUmbrellaPresents! It’s pretty much just the length you see in the picture, Kylie’s real costume is briefer than this, like the bottom is basically sparkly underpants. I did the drapey stuff at the front and back because to actually wear something like that to a costume party, noone would do it!! I will make some little knickerbockers too.

It looks great! How long is it because it doesn’t really show, but still very nice!
