Description

This maxi dress is made from a very special print fabric I got in Hamilton Ont. at a store in the Ottawa Street fabric district. Six blocks and almost 30 fabric stores -like heaven on earth! I wanted a pattern that would showcase the both the strong vertical and horizontal lines of the print. I wanted a fan like effect for the bodice to take advantage of the feather like look and I wanted the feathers to point in a different direction for the skirt. This pattern had what I wanted. I had to cut the pattern at the waist -the pattern is in one piece -in order to lay it out correctly on the fabric. I also lengthened it to maxi length. Being a tall person the tall pattern size worked perfectly for me.

The knot and twist was not difficult because the pictures are quite clear and easy to follow; even with the addition of full-across waist seam. I followed the illustrations and it worked the first time. The attachment of the all in one back neck, shoulder and armhole facing instructions are the same as I learned in design school and the same as it’s done in store-purchased clothing. It makes the finished look of the top edge of the left side zipper very smooth and professional. This method also means no bulk at the shoulder seams, either.

This dress is cool and comfortable for summer. the print and pattern work together and the dress is a real stunner. I’m very happy with the results.

Material Notes

100% Rayon even weave challis. I bought more than needed and pre-washed several times to shrink it. After it shrunk 10% it didn’t shrink any more.

Just made this dress, after wanting to try it for a long time. Your fabric seems perfect for this pattern.
