Description
I like the color and I like the word “eggplant.” But eating it is another matter.
Loosely fitted knit top with front pleats and kimono sleeves lengthened to elbow. This top is based on Vogue 8534 view A. I cut the back bodice on the fold, removing the center back seam. The pattern instructions tell you to leave the front neckline edge raw, but I chose to finish it with a binding cut from the fashion fabric. The binding at 1 cm wide finished is a little too narrow, sometimes exposing the inside raw edges, particularly at center front where the pleats are. The next time I sew this up again (and I definitely will), I’ll use a 1.5 cm wide binding finished.
The stitch I selected for the hems is a lightning bolt stretch stitch. It’s a tiny, tiny zigzag stitch that looks like a lightning bolt. Unless you’re scrutinizing up close, the lightning bolt stitch looks like a straight stitch. It’s particularly stretchy on a seam, but I’m not sure how stretchy it is on very stretchy hems. This is a loose top, so I’m not worried about popping the zigzag stitches.
