Description

i have been oogling knit blazers lately so i made up butterick 4610 using a double knit fabric. i love this jacket, it’s perfect for me to throw on when i need/want to look presentable shuttling kids to various activities or running errands. plus it’s knit so it’s super comfortable!

i decided to use the fusible tailoring method to keep it looking nice and crisp. i applied knit fusible to the entire front, the facing, the collar and at the jacket and sleeve hems (the pattern called for much less fusing). i toped it off with some ribbon trim and sparkly buttons.

this butterick pattern is a nice starting point, though a bit boxy right out of the envelope. to fix this, i narrowed the shoulders a touch and raised the armscythe by 3/4" and narrowed the sleeves. i graded from an 8 up top to a 10 at the waist and used the size 6 sleeve.

many more details and pics over on the blog! notes from a mad housewife

Oh, My! I love this! Now I want one. You have inspired me :) Plus I think it’s high time after 3 years of sewing that I learn how to sew this double knit stuff that everybody raves about and makes such cute clothes from!

WOW. Just WOW. I absolutely love jackets and blazers… yet it had never occured to me to use a comfort fabric like a knit. This jacket is easily up there with my favs. And your construction looks perfect!

thanks many times over, you’re so talented yourself! the double knit is perfect since it has plenty of body, yet is still super comfy. it’s definitely one of my favorite projects. :)

It looks fantastic! I’ve been looking at these in the shops but they always look cheap and badly made. I’d love to be able to make one as nice as yours.

yes, the cheap looking ones i would never buy… the decent looking ones are way too expensive. yay for home sewing! the double knit was very easy to work with on a regular sewing machine.
