I bought this African fabric from the web a while back and couldn’t think what to make with it. Then when I saw the Louis Vuitton fashion show for this Spring/Summer with the carousel it kind of inspired me to make this using a pattern I’d used a year or so ago.
I wish I’d used a more luxurious fabric for the underlayer as the cutouts are quite large so you actually see the white layer more clearly/in more detail than I was expecting but it’s a really easy and quick pattern to make up so I my well do it again as I have quite a few yards of the black fabric left (it’s actually meant to be used as a kind of sari I think).
The purple dress is the original one I made and I kind of liked how the edges frayed so didn’t bother hemming it, just did a zig zag stitch a few millimeters from the edge so it wouldn’t fray too far. It’s a kind of wool blend fabric.
It’s from Burda mag October 2009, 119b.
