So, I was on my weekly browse at Spotlight, Wollongong, my local go-to for all things crafty, fabric or sewing-related, when I spotted this gorgeous khaki-coloured Melton wool in the clearance bin at $6/metre. There wasn’t much left on the bolt but I knew I had to have it! There was only 1.25metres left but I figured that I could do something with it, especially seeing as it was 147cm wide.
Imagine my excitement when I saw this free downloadable Tonia Cape pattern from Fitzpatterns , all I could do was cross my fingers and hope that I had enough fabric. Thankfully, it was just the right amount.
The pattern is easy to print and assemble, and also easy to follow. The cape in the pattern is not lined but I lined my cape with a lovely grass-green and khaki paisley quilting cotton from my stash.
It’s been a warm and cosy item of clothing so far this Winter and it has even been on a visit to the Kirribilli Markets (thanks Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge pylon for your contribution to the background scenery!)
Outer: Melton wool, khaki, 60%wool, 40% polyester; Lining: paisley quilting cotton; lightweight interfacing; thread; buttons;
