Description

This was to be my Christmas dress but I ran out of time making some extra presents.
This is the first dress I’ve made that I am really happy with, although (like the previous ones) it is still too big in the bodice and midriff despite making the size smaller than my smallest measurement. Next time I will drop yet another size. This time I added a sash with the leftover fabric to cinch it in. I love that the neckline is flattering without gaping or exposing any cleavage, which is often a problem for me in rtw garments.

Material Notes

Shell 100% cotton (with some kind of metallic coating)
Lining 100% cotton.
Because it’s hot here in NQ!

great dress! i LOVE the fabric! you did a beautiful job! I don’t think the bodice looks bad- i think with this style of dress it works even being a bit big! on most patterns there is a box that says “finished garment size” or something to that effect (usually right on the pattern pieces). Did you look at this? Usually this can give you an idea of how much ease the pattern is building in. Especially with Simplicity and New Look I usually have to go down a couple sizes. It’s still not an exact science, and most people would recommend a muslin, but I really hate doing that extra work, so I prefer just to do it while fitting and cut it down as necessary. Also, here’s a site I found that talks about ease if you’re interested: http://www.getcreativeshow.com/seminars/sewing_ease.htm :) oh and I think the pattern details don’t show up anywhere – I’ve been wondering about that myself!!! it sure would be nice!

    Hi Fabricaddict

The pattern was New Look 6774. I did add the details but they don’t seem to have been saved for some reason.
