A dress inspired by the exceedingly gorgeous Joan Holloway from Mad Men. I drafted the pattern myself and the sleeve tucks and the pockets took me forever to get right (I want appreciation, dammit)! More pictures on my blog
Made from Irish linen/viscose blend. Probably a poor choice of fabric for this dress. I think it would be better in something stiffer that creases less.

This dress is stunning! I absolutely love the tucks on the shoulder. Fantastic work, it looks very professional!

Love the top of the dress – the waistline, the sleeves (which you did amazingly!!!) and the bow. The fit of the dress on you is great too!!!

This is darling! And the little bow is a perfect addition!

hehe fancy that! This dress started off as an exact knock-off of the first dress in that Luella collection. But the style didn’t suit me so I changed it. The pockets, sleeves and waistline are the same!
Thanks for following my blog!

I visited your blog: Your ‘golden rule of sewing’ is just what I think: I wear my dresses every day in the office and I like it. :-)

Want appreciation? Here’s another well-deserved dose! What a gorgeous dress, I adore it! I’m sure you’ll turn heads in it. Fantastic work!

Very lovely! The details are exquisite. I agree about the fabric — when I saw the first picture, I thought “This is great but Joan would wear it in wool or heavier cotton.” Heh.

Thanks so much! Yeah I wanted to make it in wool, but I really wanted a pastel colour and I could only find navy, grey and black wool. Borriinnggg! Anyway, I’m not too fussed about it, I think the linen gives it a more casual look, but definitely if I make it again I’ll use a different fabric.

Thanks, Zenica. Of course you can wear something like this! If you can sew, you can pretty much wear whatever you like.
