Description

I love this fabric: it’s extremely soft and cozy. But I don’t love the way the dress itself fits and I think part of the problem is the fabric. It clings and drapes in the wrong way. Initially, the dress was a little looser, but I found it unflattering, so I made it a bit smaller. I find that the neck and the various gathers slump and drape in awkward ways when I move around. Perhaps the pattern would be better with a slightly stiffer fabric, perhaps some sort of wool blend. I also don’t think the cowl needs to be quite so loose, and if I were to make the dress again, I would take away a couple of the gathers. It seems to me like there are a few too many.

Material Notes

Heavy cotton jersey.

I think perhaps if you want it to have more drape; leave it looser and add a tight lining, then sew the outer and inner garments together on the side seams- then you’ll still have the shape and get the drape ;)
