I’ve long admired wonderful Japanese pattern books until I decided to order one. As soon as I received Pattern Magic I started working on this top.
It’s made from white cotton fabric and has a zipper at the side. The back is plain, but in front, straps of fabric are intervowen and give it a sophisticated look. Only the crossing points are sewn together by hand.

Oh, I’ve made a toile for this one! I found it increaibly difficult to assemble it on myself and gave up, I’ll have to wait until I have a dress-form :-)!
Good job, it looks great!

I just saw this site posted on another listing – Japanese PDF patterns online….maybe that can help with your diversity issue. http://tamanegikobo.ocnk.net/

fascinating – is that front part woven? love how it adds structure and detail to a basic shell. This would also look great as a shift dress.
Keep seeing great stuff made from Japanese patterns here on BurdaStyle, in SF we have a Japanese bookstore I’ve been thinking that I should go and visit see if they stock Japanese pattern books, I’ve looked on Amazon Japan but it would be nice to browse before buying

Yes, the front part is made by cutting the fabric into four straps and then interveaving them.
The Japanese pattern books are wonderful. I bought two so far. The only thing that bothers me is that they’re very specialised – one book is only on skirts for example, another on dresses etc. I’d like more diversity in a single pattern book.
