Description

Blue is my absolute most favorite color and I can’t live without prints, so it’s natural that I would gravitate toward this very special blue and white double face jacquard when fabric shopping. The speckled woven pattern is reminiscent of confetti and since it’s double-faced, I decided to break up the blue a bit with some colorblock paneling at the waist and pockets. I love how this dress feels very architectural and structured when worn. The lycra also keeps it quite comfortable and wrinkle-resistant. (It also gives me another reason to wear my blue patent leather Miu Mius!)

I photographed the dress during a stroll on the The High Line, one of my favorite spots in New York.

    Looks great Jamie! I would love to see some of the construction details on your projects, such as seam finishes.

      Thanks, Grace! I’ll try to get better detail photos on the next one. In terms of construction details for this dress, I understitched the neckline, armhole, and pocket areas. (To further secure the facing pieces down, I usually hand stitch at the seam allowances.) I serged the raw edges and sewed a blind hem stitch to finish off the hem.

      Thank you! I got the fabric in the New York Garment District. I made a muslin of the dress first to ensure fit, but after that, the sewing didn’t take me very long since I didn’t have to line the dress. Yay for double face fabric!

      Thank you! I decided not to sew a vent since I have enough movement from the Lycra in the fabric and also decided to understitch the pockets so the skirt would be nice and neat. It’s a great pattern and you should definitely give it a shot!

    I love the different coloured fabric! It makes this dress look completely unique and very pretty! Very cute! Hope you’ve not been too badly affected by the storm and things are getting back to normal now.

      The situation in NY is still challenging post-Sandy, but we’re fortunate to have electricity and hot water! I definitely got some productive sewing done during the week, too!

      Phew! That’s good news about electricity and hot water! A friend of mine in New Jersey has been knitting lots to keep warm, but I don’t think fabric is as cosy!

      And, yes, I am very lucky to live here! Although all the wonderful choice isn’t great for my wallet!
