Description

This is my first jacket I have ever made. I have wanted to make the Hikaru ever since I saw Yoshimi’s pink version (CLICK FOR LINK) . I fell in love with it and finally got the nerves up to give it a go. I have not made any alterations to the original pattern except for taking it in a bit more at the waist and I like my jackets long so I added 4cms into the length. I am really proud of it and love it so much I’ve worn it every day since completing it. I think it is the most well finished item I have made so far and has inspired me to try more complex patterns. I encourage anyone to give it a go, jackets aren’t as scary and I thought they would be :) I would have finished this much sooner but got stumped by a lack of nice jacket zippers available here in the shops. My choices were plastic or plastic! That seemed a crime on such beautiful wool but luckily I took my jacket to our last BSC meet for show & tell and Sandra had the perfect zipper in her collection for me, all I had to do was shorten it which was easy peasy.

Material Notes

100% italian wool and printed satin lining, Birch 14mm button covering kit (24 buttons) and separating jacket zipper.

Amazing job! I love the buttons. I’m still tempted to add more buttons to the front of mine, (but it was $23USD for 10 – ouch!) I love the printed lining you used as well. (I need to add pics of my lining). Oh, and I can’t really tell where you added the length, the proportions are still very much intact. Good job!!!

Oh they are pricey, but they look great, I didn’t notice you left off some buttons so I wouldn’t stress about it :) I’d love to see your lining pics, let me know when you upload them

oh this is just fantastic! i always wanted to try this pattern but bit nervous as my sewing skills aren’t really so pro. Linings freak me out, was it easy to follow instructions and straightforward to line? Yours looks great!

Hi Emlj, I was scared of lining too but I don’t really know why, it just sounds scary! This is the first fully lined project I have ever done and I surprised myself with how easy it was. I honestly think you should have a go, the instructions were actually pretty good and it will lift your confidence :) And I am happy for you to bug me if you do try it and get stuck ;D
