This is a Vogue pattern from the designer Issay Miyake. I originally admired this jacket here on Burdastyle from GuerillaEmbroidery and decided I would have to attempt to make one for myself.
Although I questioned the way the collar was constructed, the pattern in general was very straight forward and easy to follow. The alterations I made were to omit the pockets, add an inch to the overall length and sew the front and back collar sections together ( this made for a cleaner, more finished ruffle). I had been saving this pattern until I found a fabric that was worthy of the design, but became impatient and ended up using this vintage denim I had on hand. I’m rather pleased that I did, for it’s very versatile and turned out nice. I lined the inside with some beautiful fabric I found at a fabric swap. I think it’s rayon, but can’t be sure. The lining is so lovely that it definitely adds to my interest in wearing the jacket , like a secret added bonus or something. It’s really the little things, isn’t it?
My husband was able to snap a photo of me in the jacket this past weekend while wearing it out. That’s my eldest son Evan with me.
