My old ironing board cover was dull and uninspiring, so I used it as a pattern and construction guide to create a much more interesting one. I love the bold, vibrant (and inexpensive) prints you can find at Ikea and an ironing board cover is a great way to use one or more of them.
I used a lightweight cotton canvas with a bold print that I picked up at Ikea last year. I don’t believe they carry this particular fabric any longer, but you can usually find something interesting in their fabric department. If the prints don’t grab you, check out the stripes.

I want one. I was looking at my ironing board in disgust just yesterday, while I was pressing out fabric for sewing. It would have never occured to me to make a new cover.

Mine was pretty bad too – stained with fusible tape stuck to it and paper towel I put on top of that so everything wouldn’t get stuck – a mess! This is much better and I no longer dread using it. Definitely worthwhile if you decide to give it a go.

Fabulous, and a very timely post for me, my ironing board cover was mauled by my cat this weekend and I have a tonne of this exact fabric from Ikea in my stash which i haven’t been able to assign to anything as yet, so thanks for the inspiration!

You’re quite welcome! So glad you have that fabric because I felt a little bad showing it and knowing that they don’t carry it anymore. Enjoy your new board when you get around to recovering it!
