Nashua, New Hamp...
I found this basic fitted wool crew neck sweater from Banana Republic fall 04 line in a thrift store for $5. I bought it with the intent of remaking it into a sweater from Milly that was featured on Emma Pillsbury from Glee. I used a vintage Simplicity pattern for the collar (it was supposed to be a detachable collar but I attached it with zig zag stitch). The placket was from another vintage Butterick. I interfaced the collar and finished the edge with bias tape. The Milly sweater features thick topstitching; I used embroidery thread and an embroidery cam with my 1974 Kenmore zig zag machine to make a simple design, then added the buttons (which I admit are not perfectly lined up). The placket is only attached by the buttons and then tacked down on the corners to prevent puckering when the sweater stretches.
The material I used for the collar and placket is a stretch woven with a waffle texture repeating pattern. Not sure of the fabric content but most likely some kind of polyester.
