Description

Please excuse my ANTM posing. My dress was self-drafted using the “pinch, pin, & sew method.” (Not recommended—very tedious). This type of batik fabric is traditionally used in Indonesia as a sarong (a narrow, tightly wrapped skirt), however my dress in no way resembles a traditional Indonesian garment.

Material Notes

printed batik sarong fabric

Hey, It does resemble the basic look of some Dayak traditional dresses from Kalimantan (Borneo). I have a friend I can pester here if you want to have a look at some.

It’s not Dayak, it’s a Javanese batik sarong… Dayak has more bold lines and detailed with colorful beads, while batik has more monochromatic-themed fabric color :)

What a beautiful use of Indonesian sarong fabric. I have some that my mom brought over from Indo last time she visited me. Hope I can be as creative with it as you!

I love it! I MUST have been tedious though if you had to draft it ON YOURSELF with noone to help you! Still, it’s worth it for such a gorgeous creation that suits you so well :o)
