This fabric reminded me right away of candy sticks, peppermints, and candy canes. I found the pattern for the contour bust and thought… oh yeah! gotta make me one of these! I looked at all the other pictures of the contour bust finished products and envied! I looked at the sizing and adjusted to what I thought would be appropriate for me… I underestimated and ended up with a very very VERY brief top! The cup was entirely not the right size for me… just looked …wierd… so I made some adjustments. One of my favorite dresses from anthropologie had the sweetheart neckline and the lining. I tried it and LOVE it! I think it frames the top of the dress and modestifies it a bit where needed!
The sewing itself was a bit flabbergasting as this fabric is a beast to get a needle through… hand sewing the bust and back was so incredibly frustrating that I almost gave up all together. When my parents came to China this summer to spend some time with us, I showed my mom the dress and she got me so excited for it again that I mustered all the courage I had and finished this puppy off.
I love the back of this dress! I got the idea from a wedding dress I was looking at online when I was wedding dress shopping. I hid a zipper in the back under the fold of fabric – secured by a snap. (looks much more difficult than it is!) I had enough fabric to bring the horizontal stripes all the way around the dress in the bottom strip. I really like the different directions of the lines… I think next time (since I bought so much of the fabric… hmmm….) I’ll play with that more!
I love the way it turned out… makes me want to have a very early Christmas party… maybe with a peppermint theme??? Please pass the candy canes!
very strange shirting… hand sewing this was the worst! the fabric must have been coated or something.
