This is my first sewing project on Burdastyle. I have been a silent observer and admirer of the Burdastyle community for quite a while. I love looking at all the members’ projects. Although all the beautiful and creative projects never failed to inspire, I have always been too intimidated to cut into the fabric. That is going to change this year. My 2013 New Year resolution is to sew and create. I have decided to take up the scissors and turn on the sewing machine.
I have chosen to start with a simple sleeveless V-neck shirt. The pattern is from BurdaStyle 7509. I have chosen a light blue cotton material because blue is my favourite colour. The instructions were easy to follow but I found the V-neck section a bit fiddly. I decided to hand sew the bias binding on the neck line and arm holes. The hand stitching gives the garment a personal touch. After putting the top on, it looked a little plain – so I added a narrow bow-tie.
I had to pick up the seam ripper a few times but overall I am very proud of my first sewing garment. I am going to wear this shirt everywhere with a huge grin on my face.

Good on you. You’ve inspired me.I think it’s about time I do the same. I’ve got four meters of beautiful green silk, which I’ve been a bit fearful in cutting. Me too, this year it’s going to be used :)
