Description

It’s not often that my husband* goes shopping for clothes, so when I saw him eyeing off a simple casual vest at the shops, I thought to myself, I’ve got a pattern for that!

I used the Burdastyle’s Jason pattern with a few adjustments to lengthen the vest slightly and improve the fit around the back and at the armscye. The pattern was simple to sew and I enjoyed this method of making welt pockets.

Husband did not like the upper pockets, so I made only the two lower welt pockets. And of course, the customer is always right – so even though I wanted to do a surprise contrast polka-dot tightening strap at the back, or even just use the polka-dot fabric as lining for the tightening strap, I was overruled. Oh well, at least I got to use the polka-dots for the lining of the vest. Husband chose his own buttons from Spotlight- chubby copper-toned ones, I think it gives the vest a little bit of a steampunk feel.

It’s been a surprisingly versatile item of clothing – suitable for weddings, work and casual wear depending on what it’s worn with.

  • Thanks husband for posing for photos in your new favourite vest!

Did you extend at both lines to make it longer? I’m making the vest for someone who is 6’7, and it needs to be about 5 inches longer than it is now

      Hi,

Sorry for the late reply. Yes, I lengthened all pattern pieces so that it was even throughout. Good luck!

      Regards, Cynthia.
