I followed a vintage simplicity pattern I got from etsy for the first time and chose to do the one with V-neck but shorten the dress length and the sleeves. It was my first attempt with vintage pattern so I was a little skeptical but the instructions were surprisingly easy to follow. It was also my first experience sewing a zipper and as I do not have a zipper foot, I chose a normal white zipper instead of an invisible zipper. Thank goodness it turned out all right, phew!

I realize this is a very late post, but I just found this part. This is a fave pattern of mine – my roomie and I had dresses made with this back when it first came out and long dresses were so popular. It is comfy and looks great. This fabric brings it so up to date, now I’d love to make it again. Lovely dress, I love it.

This is absolutely beautiful! Any chance you’d be willing to share/sell me the pattern? I love vintage patterns.

Thank you! I really enjoyed working with this pattern so it’s likely that I will be using it again. I got mine from etsy. Do a search for simplicity 5850 and it should still be listed. remember to get one in your size as a single envelope only contains one size.

Fabric is lovely!!! I love the cut too, very flattering. For future reference, I think esewingworkshop.com has a free video on how to sew an invisible zipper with a normal sewing machine foot.
