I wanted to improve my summer wardrobe this year and was able to reconstruct an old shirt of my husband’s into something new for me! I saw a shirt similar to this on the site and was inspired. I didn’t follow it exactly, but did use the basic idea. I also found some cotton crocheted lace at the dollar store and thought it would work too. Lesson learned though, always prewash/dry the ribbon and lace BEFORE using. Unfortunately, I forgot to do that and it shrunk slightly after I sewed it on, making the shirt look a little maternity like since it pulls it out a bit- one of these days I will correct that.
I also used a technique that I learned from the other shirt I am posting today. Sewing narrow elastic directly on the shirt. It gave it a really nice fit and look with a slight gather.
old cotton short sleeved mens button shirt
cotton lace ribbon
narrow elastic (1/8 of an inch- I think)
