I made this Maria Skirt in just a matter of hours and with only a few changes. I made the waistband much wider – almost three inches – and ended up having to take it in quite a bit. I also tacked down the top few inches of the pleats so they wouldn’t fly away quite so much. When I first tried it on after finishing, I almost wished I had just made the back straight down, with no pleats, because the pleats make my rear look larger than (I hope) it actually is…but then I realized I kinda liked it! I’m working this skirt, ladies :)

Ive had the same problem. I made an A-line pleated skirt similar to the Marie and I was very unhappy with the pleats in the back because they made my rear look bigger than necessary. I tacked them down from the top as well and I found that it actually made the bottom of the pleats stick out even more. Im still trying to figure out the best way to fix it.

Nice! I think the effect is more attention getting and well worth the tad extra emphasis feature. Your “get the job done” attitude & fearless modifications are extremely motivating.

Really nice skirt, I too like the way you treated the pleats, it makes it look much more sophisticated!

About how far did you tack down the pleats, because I am loving the shape you achieved. I haven’t worn my marie (partly because the pattern is crazy to match, but mostly) because of the shape. I am looking for simple modifications.
I love your modifications and the final garment (and that is some classic sexy styling)! Work it!

In the front, I tacked them from the top to about 4.5 inches down. In the back, I tacked them from the top to about 3 inches down (got to leave room for that aforementioned rear!)
Thanks for the compliments! Hope you get to wear yours soon!
