Description

I once fell in love with a hot pink silk Calvin Klein maxi dress at Loehmanns. There was only one, and it was a size 2, which I thought would never happen. Ironically, I soon lost enough weight to make it fit perfectly, and always wished I had bought it. This is my version and I actually like it better. This fabric is just amazing. The color is beautiful and it has a very subtle houndstooth pattern to it that shines and changes in the light.

I had a hard time with this because I certainly cut the wrong size. I imprudently serged all my seams before any fitting, assuming there wouldn’t be much to do. I ended up having to take it in an inch on each side and the bindings don’t quite match up like they did before. So, If I sewed it again I would cut a smaller size. Also, I think I would line the bust and maybe even sew in bra pads. I had a terrible time trying to find the right bra to wear with this.

    Lovely, is it jersey? Did you use any patterns to help with the design?

      Thanks! It’s not jersey. It’s woven, no stretch at all. It’s cottony but I doubt it’s 100%. The pattern is Simplicity 2587. I haven’t learned much pattern making yet. Someday. I have the text book.
