Description

I’ve had erdronen’s Hope Wrap Dress project and pattern sitting in my favourites for a while but it wasn’t until I found this lovely knit sitting on Spotlight’s clearance table that I got around to sewing it. Sometimes you just have to wait for the right fabric to come along…

I did alter the pattern a bit as I wanted the skirt to be slimmer and less A-line. I based the skirt on a retro ‘Very Easy Very Vogue’ pattern (circa 1993,) I have previously used in my Greenie’s overlap skirt and Tangerine overlap skirt. So, the front pieces have a waist seam to allow for the small pleats on the skirt and this seam is covered by the ties when worn. The back piece does not have a waist seam. The raw edges are finished with self-made binding which continue to form the ties. Overall, the pattern is easy to follow and construction fairly simple. This was my first experience using a stretch twin needle to complete the hem and although tricky at first, I got the hang of it after a while. It was a little frustrating as I broke a twin needle due to rushing and impatience but it gives a professional look on stretch fabrics and well worth the effort.

P.S. Please ignore that crazy collar necklace which I’ve got on in the first two photos- it was for a silly game we played at a Hen’s night!
