A few days before Christmas, I got it into my head that I could make a skirt in time for Christmas dinner with my family. I grabbed some red, discount fabric from my local Jo-Ann’s and started following the tutorial for the Quick Party Skirt, with some alterations. I made it high waist, with a 3-inch-wide waistband. I also ended up having to abandon the idea of gathers and to cut off a lot of fabric from the width of the skirt, because the material was so stiff it puffed up too much. After a lot of trial and error, I managed to arrange some pleats, sew in my first zipper (without a zipper foot, it was at my sister’s house), and blind stitch hem the skirt just in time to get to Christmas dinner. I was still working on it when my boyfriend came to pick me up!
There was no label on the bolt. I think it’s taffeta, but I could be very wrong.
