Description

Lined Sergeant Pepper inspired jacket with peplum for the holidays. I was really excited about this sparkly wool fabric that I got from Britex in San Francisco. It is really fun and festive. I saw it and knew right away that I wanted to use it to make a jacket for the holidays. As pretty as it was, it was really difficult to work with. I was really fortunate that Jamie Lau (formerly from Burda) had blogged about the fabric and the problems she had run into. She made a dress and noted that the fabric frayed so badly that pieces needed to be finished before working with them. That helped to know. I just ran everything through the serger at the beginning. This was also my first time lining anything and my first attempt at using BurdaStyle petite pattern. Loved it. I didn’t have to make a single alteration to the pattern, very rare for me. The muslin fit perfectly and the jacket does also. I am really happy with the way it turned out.

Material Notes

Wool blend from Britex fabrics.

Nice, looks great, you could wear it over that cute green dress you made for your daughters wedding huh? I am working on a petite pattern from Burda right now too, it is nice to see it just fit!

Thanks so much. Yeah, I think it will go with that dress. I would like to have an excuse to wear that again. But, for now I have been wearing it with jeans. I was really happy to see that the Burda petites are true to the measurements. I don’t think I have ever made anything that had so few alterations. I hope it is the same for you.

Hi:) Thank you! I haven’t seen if the sew-along is up yet. I’ll be too busy this week in any case. Hope you are doing well.

I was always really intimidated by patterns with lining. But, now I want to do more. Thank you!

Hi Winnie. Thank you for the encouraging comment! That was my second attempt at a real jacket (other than the Burda sew-along last month). My first fed my UFO bag. So this was definitely a milestone for me. I am learning a lot and having a blast doing it.

Thank you. I seem to be consistently drawn to jewel colors. This fabric has jewel colors and shimmer. The holidays give me the perfect reason to wear them…..not that I really needed a reason!

Thanks so much! I really loved that collection of patterns inspired by the 70’s that was in the October issue. I just got some fabric to make the Maxi coat and I can’t wait to get started:)
