I love the bright pink hibiscus blooms in my yard, and wanted to make a coat featuring details that would remind me of those beautiful blooms during the fall and winter months. I started with a coat pattern from the November 2006 issue of BurdaStyle magazine and made a few design changes: added a bright pink flat piping around the collar and center fronts; added a third button and used pink for the bound buttonholes; changed the flap pockets to double-welt pockets that are backed with pink; and changed the belt bands to a single belt in the back.
The coat is made of wool coating. I hand-basted silk organza as underlining and pad-stitched sew-in hair canvas interfacing for the collar and lapels (I used fusible for the facings and pockets). The lining is pink silk charmeuse.

Thank you so much! I wasn’t sure whether the pink details would be too bright, but I like how it turned out.
