A-line modified from self-draft using ‘sew what skirts’ book. Something is not quite right, it’s not got the oomph I’d hoped. Im not sure if the yoke needs breaking up a bit, change top stitch thread? belt, pockets? or ribbon over the top of the yoke seam? at the moment it’s drawing attention to my tum, which I don’t need. I’m a bit gutted as it fits perfectly and the zip is actually invisible! Help please fellow stitchers, what would you do to sort this mediocre skirt??

Make the perfect summer tunic dress!

I would go with a contrasting color of ribbon, something like pink or purple maybe even orange. Also if you want to flatten the tummy or make it look flatter then i would go with 3 ribons in a row, you have the room for it. AND the support would keep the fabric from warping to conform to your shape. Good luck, and yes it is already a lovely skirt!

I would do a mustard too. Maybe also try the one ribbon around the seam as referred to by Ichigogirl. Then I would put two around the bottom toward the hem. That would help to bring the eye away from the puffy waist. Your skirt is cute and I love the print and colors.

I know what you mean, I made a simular skirt wih a flower fabric, that’s why you can’t see the pattern/model. I should add some contrast. I agree on ichigogirl by adding a ribbon. On the seam between the upper and under part.. hope you will find a way, but still the skirt is very cute!

Maybe you could add a mustard (like in the print) or turquiose velvet ribbon (or some other kind of ribbon for that matter) along the waist (a few cm’s down maybe)?. I have a moss-green/brown printed skirt that has a moss green velvet ribbon along the waist, and it kind of ties the skirt together and brings out the pattern at the same time as it makes it less, hm, too much. It’d really help if you wore the skirt in the pictures though! It’s a lovely print and it looks well made!

Thank you for your help, yeah, I’d thought about a ribbon, wasn’t sure whether to go turquoise, mustard or a contrast? I’ve tried to add a pic with me in it, not the best at using the auto timer though, and not sure if the edit has worked!
