I started this ages ago, and never quite finished it. Sound familiar?
Now I’m trying to take it off the UFO list…
I need some advice:
Sleeves or no sleeves? I’m in Perth, Australia, so its not a matter of warmth as a cardy thrown over will do the job. I;m thinking maybe cap sleeves?
I didn’t sew the darts, I just tucked them. Now I’m not so sure, especially on the bodice.
It definately needs a belt, but do I sew the lace on the waist or just use a belt-belt? I spose I can cover the lace with a belt-belt when I choose.
What would you do with this?

Whoop! Its no longer an UFO dress :D Thanks for your ideas. It was really stormy here today, so I havn’t managed a decent picture yet (the rain kept splattering on the lens) but I’ll post it soon.

I’m loving the sleeves and the lace on the waist. I love the fabric – and the way the lace looks on it – it goes well together ;)

Sleeves, lace belt, and darts.
But I think it depends what do you want : the “total look” , is what I would go for. But sleeveless with a belt belt would work as well. Good luck

I think the puff sleeves are cute, definitely sew the darts on the bodice, and leave the lace off the waist, use it on the sleeves or the hem of the skirt. look forward to seeing it finished.

i like the sleeve it sets thedress off nicely yes it needs darts rather than tucks to give a smooth line on the body. might look good with the lace around the hem,if not waist lace looks good but not both, it might be to much

I agree with everyone else and definitely remove the sleeve, leave the lace at the collar and remove the waist lace. Stitch the darts in the bust line and leave it as a fitted A-line dress. I wouldn’t even wear it with a belt, if it’s fitted well enough it will look nice and delicate, kinda 60’s inspired.

Thanks people! I like the idea of the pencil skirt. I might give that a go- at least take out some of the fullness. And yup, now I’ve looked at the picture a few times I agree with no more lace (too fussy) and sleeveless. That “sleeve” was added to see if I could I think. I unpicked the loose gathers and its just a semi circle. Early attempt at drafting my own sleeve. Not a good plan for a first time :)

First thought sleeves, belt belt but if you have anymore lace a trim around the bottom to match. I’d do the darts too. How many sleeved/sleeveless dresses have you got let that guide you. Enjoy, you’ve got so far….Sure it will look great :-)

Your dress really looks nice, it would be really too bad if it ends as an UFO! I would leave it sleeveless, and sew the darts, at least those on the bodice. And I like the lace at the neckline very much, but for the waist I would use a simple belt. Looking forward to see the result!

I also prefer it sleeveless, and no belt. I would sew in the darts in the bodice as well. Good luck in finshing the UFO.

im thinking sleeveless with no belt just add a complimentary belt plus i think this dress would work well with all different coloured belts for different looks. dont really know your style but i think it would also look good taken in to a pencil dress with darts still sleeveless
