Happy Birthday!

Added May 19, 2013

Amsterdam, Nethe...

The secret project I was working on: a birthday present for my sister. I had to guess her size as I wanted it to be a surprise and – hurray – it fit perfectly! And I think she even likes it…

A pattern from KnipMode" – August 2012, model 13 – which was easy to follow (and It helped that I had made the skirt before – project “Who wants to be a Ballerina”)
The skirt has 6 pleats front and back.
I topstiched the seam, the pockets and the waistband with double thread to make them more prominent.
The flower decorative band was sewn on by hand and I attached a selfmade label to make it all look “real”.

Material Notes

100% Linen from the Boerenbonthal in Amsterdam, Albert Cuyp

Spring, Summer
Garment Type

Thank you. I did it for her gladly. You are right though: I was worried about the fit and the size, especially when she said that the worst present she could imagine getting was a hand made skirt too small to fit her. This was said AFTER the skirt had already been finished and present-wrapped! I guess we are both relieved…

It’s very pretty. How sweet of you to make for your sister a skirt, without even knowing if it would be ok on her body! Just to make it a surprise!
