Bonjour Burdastylians!
My degree at uni always has great costume parties, and until last week I’ve always hired a costume for ~$50. I am so proud to have made my costume and that it totally turned out how I’d wanted! I chose Fatina for its simplicity (I wanted to be able to make this in 2 sewing sessions) and i love it! I chose version A but made my own peter pan collar to suit the costume. Madeline was one of my favourite childrens shows when I was young. I had lots of fun wearing it and everyone knew what I was :)
This costume only cost me the pattern cost! Free material from a box my friend donated me, and I used my friends old school hat. I definitely recommend this pattern as quick and simple that has many possibilities to allow personalisation.
I used baking paper to ‘design’ the collar and it’s really inspired me to use that paper in the future to change things a lot more. One more step in the way of having the skills to be pattern free :D
je l’aime!

Aww thank you, I have such limited internet here while away from home so i can’t check Burda daily. But your comment came up in my email notifications so I rushed on here – so happy and amazed to be on the front page!

I’m getting a bit peter pan collar obsessed right now! They’re so cute.
I’m going to remake this when i get home in other colour combos. It’s very quick to make! Thank you so much :)

This is freakin adorable! I only wish I had thought of this for the last costume party I attended, But I don’t have your red hair unfortuantly

The red hair probably helped with the costume yes, but go for it! There were 11 other little girls. Thank you :) everyone is too sweet

The cartoon Madeline kind of has a collar like this, and I really wanted to experiment with peter pan collars, so a 2 in 1 experiment that I’m very happy with! It was such a good kids show :) glad you liked it

In the nicest way possible – that is SO not a costume, if I saw you walking down the street I’d think “aah cute dress!”

Hahaha thanks I hope to wear it again some time, but will definitely remake it! I’m so happy how it turned out :) comments like these increase my daring to wear things I make on the streets.

I love it! I think it is perfect- although I immediately knew the royal blue frock on the front page was Madeline, I love the modern, more grown up take. Very pretty!

Yeah there were no Madeline adult costumes (all toddlers) but it turned out to be a blessing. It’s always good when your intention turns out to what you imagined. Thanks!!! xx
