I wanted to make the Bambi as a dress, but using leftovers meant i had scarce material – so i decided this was a practice of my future Bambi dress.
It was relatively easy, except for the elastic shirring. My first rows are not as nice as the bottom ones, and i learnt how stabbing the elastic by accident ruins the entire effect!
I kept this as a halter, ignoring the criss-cross (as i had insufficient material for ‘wings’)
I’m happy-ish :) will make another one day soon.. i hope to make it more modest so i don’t have to wear a singlet under it..
I REALLY wanted pics outside (weather was so nice, and natural lighting is the best) but my boyfriend was out till dark, so photos were indoors.
However, for fun, i decided to photoshop me onto Nobbys Beach (Newcastle NSW Australia) and i found my old Pasha Bulka photos from the floods in June 2007 (the most publicity we’ve had probably haha). That big red ship washed up on Nobbys shore during the storms, attracting massive crowds for weeks!

Looks great! I thought you had attached that cream bit of material as part of the top at the front, but it’s actually another top you have underneath, i really like the look! makes me want to try this out!bx

hi there :)
i copied the lines with chalk of where the elastic should go on the fabric,
and then locked the presser foot on the tip of the elastic,
did a zig zag stitch over the top of the elastic – without hitting it or it will ruin the shirring effect!
and fed the elastic through, lining it up as it went.
It seemed to work fine :) my top was from ‘scrap’ so i didn’t mind if i ruined it, but you could practise to make sure you know what you’re doing. When i do it again i want to make a how-to, just to add another explaination to the site for those confused (like i was!).

For the shirring, did you use a zig zag stitch straddling the elastic or straight stitch between the elastic rows? I’m trying to figure it out for my own bambi top!
