This dress was made for a show called Descience: Research on the Runway. It was inspired by research done on transcription factors conducted in fruit fly larva. I hand painted the fabric to imitate the staining agent used to visualize gene expression. I made my own pattern, the understructure of the dress is a bubble skirt (made by gathering and attaching the hem of a circle skirt to a straight skirt) and a chiffon top. I then draped the painted fabric over the understructure and tacked it on by hand to imitate the forms of the wing larvae.
