Harem pants have been popular recently and i’ve thought long and hard about whether i like them or think they’re silly. There are some ‘out there’ harem pants, you know MC Hammer style and they’re a big NO NO for me but i have seen some slimmer styles that i thought could possibly be ok. Then i saw Sandramary’s version of McCalls 5858 and rushed to buy the pattern.
I made these in some fabric from my stash which i think is a cotton blend or some sorts as my (hopefully) wearable muslin. Other than sewing one of the pockets to the right side of the fabric they were put together quite easily and took only a night of sewing.
I made the longer length and used size 8 and added an inch to the side seams of each piece and they fit perfectly! They are soooooo comfortable and easy to wear. The only thing i would change is the bagginess around the bum, there’s a little too much ;)
I may think they’re great and will possibly make another pair but my husband is not such a fan.
cotton blend fabric, polyester thread, invisible zipper.

I have seen some younger girls walking around with these pants and I really liked them but I thought they wouldn’t look good on me, but now seeing your version, I am totally convinced that I should make harem pants for myself (-). I totally love yours and they look great on you!

I think you did great!!!! I would totally sport them. I want to try to make some sometime but my poor machine is in the shop :(. You should try making a pair out of silk…now that would be fabulous!!!

Cool. I would like to make a version that has the crotch really really low…like a foot off the ground so that it is almost like a skirt…I saw the Yamoto drummers wearing something like that for their costume and I thought it was awesome…anyone know a pattern or how to alter a pattern to capture that look?

Klasse! :) You should not consider your husband – I am sure he don’t follow fashion… ! ;)

I certainly don’t consider my husband when i choose my clothes. He’s not such a fan not because he’s a follower of fashion but because the baggy style does not get his hormones raging ;)

O.k. Your husband seems to be a quiet normal man. ;)
