I created a half-circle pattern using Snugbug’s excel sheet tool to make some lovely Marimekko fabric into a skirt. My hubby suggested I do a mockup first. Instead of using muslin like i normally do and half-arsing it, I decided to use “real” fabric so if the end result was nice I’d have a skirt still!
It came together super-easily, though my waistband effort was a little awkward. I stay-stitched the waist, but not the hem and it shows. A zipper is installed at the back seam and the waist overlaps about two inches so I put an old shell button there.
I’m glad I made this, because now I see that a half-circle would not be the best use of the Marimekko—an A-line would be better. I also learned that I should not make skirts to fit my natural waist, as all those lovely lumps around my hips are showcased and make me look much heavier than I am (I am not). Lesson learned—I will amend the pattern to sit lower and make another skirt out of something else.
