Ok, so it’s not a sewing project but my colleague taught me how to knit and then showed me this great pattern for a hat that looks like hair. I couldn’t resist giving it a go.
Things I learn’t:
Knit stich,
Pearl stitch,
Backward Loop Cast-on,
Decreasing (SSK, K2Tog),
3 Needle Bind off,
Patience is a virtue.
I made a few mistakes and the hat isn’t perfect but not bad for my 2nd ever knitted item!

Give a girl a hat and she’ll be warm for a day.
Teach a girl to knit and she’ll make her own damn hat!!!!
In other words this took bloody ages, I will teach you how to knit or I might consider making you one for christmas
Love you

I still can’t make up my mind if this is disturbing or hilarious… it looks a little like the “melon hat cat” (http://members.iinet.net.au/~dwomen/files/nlAug12008/melon_head_cat.jpg), but it’s definitely going into my favourites file.

Hehe, this is so cute! I saw few hair hats made from felt, but I prefer knitted version.

I don’t think it’s funny at all, i thing it’s very fashion foreword ! you shouldn’t be embarrassed to wear it out, you should be proud and confidence . great hat.

Thanks, it makes me giggle whenever I put it on. I’m not a good knitter either but my friend taught me some basics and you can easily find instructions for all the stitches on the internet.
Give it a go, I want to start “Lego Hair” as the new Autumn 2010 trend!!

I have only worn this in the house and at work so far but as soon as it gets chilly this is going to be my winter hat. It’s good to look a ‘bit’ mental right? It keeps the real crazies away!
I have seen a really cute small version for a kid which was very cute but I hadn’t considered plugging the gap in the male baldness market, that’s smart!

This is so great, I love that it looks like hair! It also reminds me of a medieval knight’s helmet. -Rachel @ BurdaStyle

A couple of people have siad that it looks like a medieval helmet, if I had the patience and the know-how I would definitely make another one in metal grey with some sort of pattern on it and one of those helmet bits that comes down between the eyes.
Any knitters out there that know how to make this a reality??

Candy

Thanks, I think that is my favourite analogy so far. I’m almost tempted to paint my face yellow and wear very square clothes with it!
