I made this dress on a commission from my friend for his bride-to-be (unfortunately, it got lost in the mails, but that’s another story). It is made of a cotton/lycra satinette printed with those gorgeous, HUGE yellow roses. I found it at Paron Fabrics on 40th st. and fell in love.
The pattern is one of my own design. It has seams over the bust and into the armhole, a slightly raised waist, and a 3-piece A-line skirt.
I made a slip to go with the dress. The slip has horsehair in the hem to give it just a little bit of buoyancy. I also added tailor-tack bra-strap keepers to keep the bra, slip, and dress in place on the shoulder.
cotton satinette, invisible zipper, acetate, horsehair

I love how it all comes together with style and a classic look that has a Lady look to it.

very j.crew… which, ironicly, is the style i’m into at the moment. the roses almost remind me of peonies… which always look like delapidated roses to me. very shabby chic.

Love the saturated depth to the print. Muted and sensuous!
The print with the design is both innocent and alluring.
Gorgeous.

This is a marvelous pattern and fabric. Was the dress itself lost? Oh, I hope it turns up. Please let us know if it does; I like happy endings. I do have a question; are the sleeves cut in one with the bodice front/back or are they separate? My eyesight is none too good, even with Rx glasses. Cordially, Nehmah

Beautiful dress, both design and fabric, and I love hearing about the little details with the slip (maybe because I’m never patient enough to finish things that well myself). I do hope it turns up!
