This dress was made for a competition
http://tessuti.blogspot.com.au/2013/02/want-to-sew-and-score-1000.html
I used the Burda Vintage Boucle Dress pattern for this dress but decide the sleeves were ‘too much’ for the fabric and the climate I live in.
I absolutely loved making this dress using couture techniques from Susan Khalje Craftsy workshop.

Your version looks great! Very nicely done. I’m in the middle of making mine but am so confused by the waist. I’ve stitched and seam-ripped so many times, I’m just stuck. How is the top front supposed to be sewn to the bottom front??? Any tips you can give me would be very much appreciated!!
Thanks!

Hi Robyn,
Sorry for the late reply – I don’t always get a chance to check my Burda wall. If you haven’t worked it out already the front bodice attaches to the skirt and the bodice is then folded (like a pleat) down about an inch past the waist seam and is basted in the side seams (it should then fit to the dress back nicely along the side seams). When I made it I made a toile first and adjusted this area several times before I was happy with it – I found that the measurement is quite generous and the dress needs a waist stay which I put in my dress to keep the waist seam from drooping when wearing the dress – if I ever make another one I will make a tutorial as I go – because it is a bit tricky ;)

Thank you! I figured it out for the most part, but in the end (after my husband sheepishly admitted it wasn’t very flattering on me) I changed the design. I’m wearing it to a friend’s Mad Men party this weekend so I’ll take a pic and post it when I get dressed!

oh this fabric (which I totally coveted when the competition was announced) so works with this dress…its like a modern update of the original.

Thanks – I would never have bought this fabric if it weren’t for the competition but am now really happy with the dress!
