Just last week I presented a web seminar on how to make this lovely dress (here is the link to the recording). The dress turned out better than I thought, and the fit was perfect. I made a size 38 with minor height pattern adjustments.
I had bought a bunch of this grey fabric with a white tree branch print on it a while ago, and it has great widthwise stretch to it. This dress pattern is perfect for woven fabrics with a bit of stretch because it is a close fitting dress silhouette with almost bustier bodice seaming/styling. In my variation of this dress I omitted the ribbon at the waist and bow since it just isn’t my style, and instead I drafted little cap sleeves to sew into the armholes. You can see how I drafted and sewed the sleeves into my dress in this web seminar recording. You will receive the Sweetheart Dress pattern PDF as well as an additional sleeve pattern.
I wore this dress to a fashion show last weekend and got many compliments on it, and I can’t wait to wear it again. I like how the fabric I chose isn’t to dressy so I can wear it during the day, and then at night I can add a flashy belt and earring to spice the look up!
