Super easy pullover dress with pockets and a boatneck. It’s not at all fitted so a purchased belt has been added. My first time working with a knit fabric and I didn’t know that I was supposed to stretch the fabric as I sew, so all the seams are really tight and I usually hear a stitch or two pop in the hem every time I sit down.

Thank you so much! Who knew a dress that has two seams and took one hour to make would be such a crowd pleaser!

Beautiful! Oh yeah, so is the dress. :)
Re. sewing knit/stretchy stuff: it takes a bit of practice. I’ve made so many swim trunks for myself and swimsuits for my wife, I’m a pro at sewing stretchy stuff. I used to think I need a serger to do a stretchy overlock stitch, but not anymore. The key is to stretch the fabric and guide it through while maintaining uniform tension the whole time. The feed dogs/presser foot don’t know nor care that the fabric is under tension.
(In fact, the stretch-and-sew technique is what David Page Coffin recommends in his book, “Shirtmaking: Developing Skills for Fine Sewing”, even for normal woven fabric. I find stretching while sewing is the only I can get a pucker-free, flat, perfectly sewn seam. Maybe it’s the age of my Singer (30 years) but no amount of fiddling with thread tensions (upper and lower) can yield satisfactory result.)

It looks fabulous! I have learnt the hard way with Knits too! Actually with one of the camisoles I made I used shirring elastic in the bobbin to get the stretch I needed ..worked out ok for me :) Think I need to do a sewing class to learn a bit more about different fabrics etc though.. Great job

this is wonderful, I am really into sewing basics right now and making them work for me. I think I’m going to try for a black dress like this, thanks for the inspiration!!
