I’ve decided that I would like to learn sewing and this is the first garment that I have completed. I’ve updated it with a better final press ;)

I used Angela Kane’s pinafore pattern and did the version without pockets. It was quite simple to create and the videos were a great guide (and easy to follow as well!) I reckon it looks great as well!

I made this out of unbleached cotton calico (inexpensive material in case I messed up) and later dyed it with black Rit dye. It turned out a lilac ecru grey sort of colour which I actually prefer over black :P

Overall I’m very happy with this. I am hoping to make this once again (hopefully it will look even better as I gain experience). It is easy to make and looks great.

Material Notes

Cotton calico (dyed with black Rit dye)

Garment Type
Classic, Business, Casual

Thank you Yobtaf, for posting your dress and especially for giving me a nice credit.

I love the dyed calico, it looks brilliant. A lovely affect considering it was black dye!

Yes, you must get into the good habit of pressing as you go and then you would not need to press much at the end. Your iron is one of your creative tools and you should use it all the time.

A great first attempt and I’m so pleased my tutorial and pattern helped you.

Thanks for checking it out! I’m glad you liked it. I rushed it a little as I was going on vacation, but now that I’ve come back I’ve had the time to give it a proper press so it looks much neater! (And yeah, I agree that ironing makes a big difference despite it being hard at times)
