I had leftover fabric from My sister’s a greenie! dress because at the time that I bought the fabric, I wasn’t even sure exactly what type of dress she had in mind. When I found this fantastic retro ‘Very Easy Very Vogue’ pattern (circa 1993) at the op-shop, it was love,love, love and I thought the green sateen would have the right structure for it.
I made Skirt B (see last pic) : a knee-length, semi-fitted, slightly tapered skirt with waistband, front pleated overlay and concealed side hemline slit. Instead of a dress zipper, I decided to insert an exposed zipper with metal teeth, to bring the skirt out of the 90s and into 2012!
In the photos, I am wearing this skirt with my Sorbetto with lace cap sleeves top which I made earlier this year. The skirt has a bit of a corporate feel to it and even the pattern envelope illustrations scream “corporate”. I’m probably not going to get much wear out of it at my workplace, so I’m going to give it to my sister. I’m planning to make this skirt again, in a less structured, more flowing fabric and hopefully it will look more casual.
Premium cotton sateen (green) 127cm wide ($12.99/metre from Spotlight – excess fabric from “My sister’s a greenie” dress) interfacing; 18cm metal-teethed zipper (from the op-shop); hook and eye; thread;
Pattern notes also suggest wool crepe, tissue faille and challis.

I’m looking at both skirts you’ve made from this pattern. Yeah, the green looks a bit “corporate” or “business-y”. Mainly because of the sharp pleats and the bluish green. They’re both beautiful skirts though. Gorgeous job on both skirts.
