Description

I love this shirt! Sorry to be over-enthusiastic about my own work, but I bought this fabric a couple of YEARS ago and have always been too scared to sew with it because it is very sheer and light. I finally took a deep breath and did it and I am really pleased with the result. It was a fairly simple pattern but took some delicacy and patience (not my strong suit) just to work with the fabric. It came out very clean, for me, even the cuffs and the narrow rolled hem, which took forever but was worth it. I like this pattern (I only altered it by taking out the zipper in the back—instead I sewed the seam shut almost to the top, and used a single button at the neckline, which I think looks really pretty). I think I could make it up several times in different fabrics and have some nice versatile blouses. My only complaint is that the “elbow” of the sleeve is quite an exaggerated curve. It looks great when your arms are bent but a little too poet-y for me when they are straight, so next time I will alter the shape to minimize that, or use more of a straight sleeve.

Material Notes

Sheer, very lightweight silk.
