I started this top using New Look 6816 after being inspired by Bola’s Cream Turtle Bat (although I know this looks nothing like it… there’s another one coming later). I liked her cinched band around the waist, so that’s what I was going for here. I made it in a hurry so I could wear it for Thanksgiving today, so I made a few mistakes. Also, I had a very limited amount of material cut into wide strips, so that’s what I had to use.
Instead of ruching the top where it meets the waistband, I added elastic. I also ruched the side seams at the bottom (although it’s hard to tell from these pictures).
Gray rayon-lycra jersey and elastic

I think this could be a great top worn on its own, or just with a tank top under it. Well done though, don’t you just love those last minute things that turn out right!

Oh thanks for the credit Liz!! Cool top! I know it’s difficult if you don’t have enough material to make what u set out to make but sometimes through the process u can discover interesting garment shapes – I’m look forward to seeing your other top soon!bx
