Another piece of fabric mum gave me from my nan’s old stash. I’m sure she said it was the Gordon tartan that my nan bought as she is from that clan but either she’s mistaken, my nan was conned or I just am not looking in the right place as it certainly doesn’t match any Gordon tartan that I’ve been able to find on t’internet!! Oh well, it was lovely to work with anyway and I’m pleased with the end result.
It’s from May 2009 edition of Burda and I’d already used the pattern once to make a summer version in orange. This one is in wool with a dupion silk lining (I just had enough remnant of the silk which was good as the shops were all closed for Christmas and I didn’t want to have to wait to make it). The buckle was from my stash as was the suede ribbon and invisible zipper.
The hem of the front skirt piece had a facing which caused me no end of trouble for some reason. I’ve never put a facing on a hem before, only on a waistband and I’m not sure why it took me so long to work out how to do it right. Had to unpick it several times and retry it, I’d cut the pattern pieces out wrong I think and had got away with just doing a normal hem on my orange version. Oh well, got there in the end.
