I had the opportunity to choose a lovely printed Spoonflower fabric for my next project. I had such a hard time choosing!! So many awesome and funky prints, and naturally I had to pick one with limegreen in it. I really took a liking to this collection of prints entitled Mean Streets, which are manipulated photographs of graffiti. I ended up going with the fabric Hip Hop Scotch in cotton silk, I loved the color combinations and the checkerboard effect.
Now that I had an AWESOME fabric to work with, I needed a pattern to finish the job! I knew I wanted to make a dress, so I decided to make the Jackie Dress which is a variation project from the new book BurdaStyle Sewing Vintage Modern. Using the Louisa Drop-Waist Dress base pattern, I followed the simple instructions in the book to draft and sew this Jacqueline Kennedy inspired dress. I really like how the classic silhouette and style of the dress contrast with the urban and funky print.
It turned out so well, and I can’t wait to wear it!
