Description

I had to grade the pattern up three sizes – it wasn’t too tricky, I basically added 3cm to the sides, and 1.5cm to the other edges (of pockets, etc). I’ve not graded anything up before, and I didn’t have any trouble, although I wasn’t sure it would fit until right at the end.

As others have said before, I would dispense with the front flap zip next time. It’s a clever idea, but it just adds bulk and work, and I had to put in press studs at each end because it stuck out, since my belly curves around there. There’s a back seam anyway for the slit, and invisible zipper there would be fine and mean the front was a bit neater.

This is my most complex project to date, and there are a few wonky bits, but overall I am very pleased with it. I will definitely sew this again, I’d love to try out different looks and variations in fabric. The pattern would make a nice base for a generic pencil skirt, too.

Better photos to come.
